U.S. Representative Billy Long issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its Michigan v. EPA ruling overturning a key Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) air quality regulation.

"The Supreme Court decision handed down today is a major victory for Americans that will free regulatory burdens and give a much-needed boost to American energy, job creation and to family budgets. The Court's ruling today will ease the pressures of rising energy prices we face due to irrational regulations.

"I have supported efforts that, if in place, could have prevented the EPA's overreach -- such as Regulatory Accountability Act, which would require federal agencies to use sound, verified data to write the lowest cost and least abrasive rules; and, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act, which would require congressional approval for regulations to cost more than $100 million per year. The EPA expected the rule overturned today to cost $9.6 billion per year. I will continue supporting common sense energy and environmental policy as the Obama Administration continues to ignore laws and impacts of its rules, such as the Ratepayer Protection Act, which would prevent families and businesses from further hikes in electric bills resulting from the EPA's power plant emissions rules."
